Kansas State

Trap Game: Nevada

The Wolfpack have become a trendy team to exceed expectations in 2021 and for good reason. The Wolfpack bring back a combined 19 starters from a year ago, including the best quarterback in the conference, Carson Strong.

Strong has received a plethora of NFL Draft buzz during the off-season and for good reason. He’s coming off a 2,858 yard, 27 touchdown sophomore season.

The entire projected starting unit are seniors and have just three non-seniors on offense.

The Wildcats lose quite a bit on defense and do not sport the most explosive offense either. Kansas State was statistically below average in every category and lost their final games to end the year. Although without Skylar Thompson, there were some win-able contests left.

Out of the non-conference trap games in the Big 12, this one seems most likely as a loss. Nevada returns a ton of great production, while Kansas State does not and ended last year on a sour note.

Peak Game: Oklahoma

What has uniquely become Oklahoma’s toughest opponent the last two seasons, the Wildcats have gotten up for the Sooners.

Kansas State turns them over, makes the Oklahoma defense uncomfortable and are solid on ball security in the previous two games.

Quarterback Skylar Thompson has also been the secret recipe, combining for seven rushing touchdowns in the two games. Even if he’s thrown one touchdown, he did not have an interception in either game.

Now as a “Super” senior, Thompson and a veteran-heavy offense, has all the potential in the world to pull it off for the third consecutive season. Even though I think it is a difficult task, not many other Big 12 schools have a shot greater than the Wildcats.
