Trap Game: Louisiana

All aboard the Steve Sarkisian train. The first stop is the Ragin’ Cajuns, who return 20 total starters from last year’s 10-1 team. Their lone loss came against Coastal Carolina by three points and boasted a 17 point win in Ames.

Billy Napier has become among the hottest group of five coaches on the coaching market and over the off-season made the decision to stay in Lafayette. Elijah Mitchell and Trey Ragas depart, but swiss army knife Chris Smith should be the starter, after accumulating 1,639 total yards over the past two seasons.

Louisiana is expected to be a consensus top 20 team and Texas will have a ton of hype, with underclassmen leading the offense in Casey Thompson/Hudson Card and Bijan Robinson

Louisiana was not expected to make the strides they did last season and are on a lot of radars. Expect this game to be much closer than expected and not too surprised if Louisiana leaves Austin with consecutive seasons with wins over Big 12 schools.

Peak Game: vs. Oklahoma

No bigger game on Texas’s schedule on a regular basis than Red River Rivalry. Regardless of each team’s record and talent, the game delivers and the hype is well deserved.

After last year’s 53-45 thriller in triple OT, the Longhorns are looking to avenge and stamp Sarkisian’s first big win in Austin.

Even if the Sooners have won five out of the last six, only one game has been decided by more than 8 points. Last year, Sam Ehlinger carried the team, en route to his six touchdown performance.

Defensively, Texas was an excellent rush defense team and has some pieces to work with, in defensive lineman Keondre Coburn and Alfred Collins.

Every season, the games seem to get closer and closer, with more drama involved. This year should be another fantastic game. One that is probable that Texas could win and build serious momentum in the program.
