Texas Tech

Trap Game: at. Houston

Matt Wells is feeling the pressure of the alumni and fan base, as the Red Raiders need to start winning games, and soon.

The Red Raiders kick off their 2021 season, with a de facto road game against the Houston Cougars inside NRG Stadium.

The Cougars had a anomaly of a season, going 3-5 and struggled in many of their losses.

The run game could never get going and the Cougars turned over the ball way too many times, with a -10 turnover margin. However, the Cougars bring back nine starters from a average defense last season.

Tune returns his top three targets from last season, led by sophomore Nathaniel Dell. Texas Tech can not go into this game, expecting to sleep walk through an easy victory.

The Red Raiders finished their last season, with a sloppy three point win over Kansas. If the Red Raiders look ahead, Houston could very well upset Texas Tech and Wells’ seat becomes even warmer.

Peak Game: Oklahoma State

There never seems to be a shortage of points when the Cowboys and Red Raiders face off. That was the case prior to the Kansas contest, where the two combined for 94 points in a six point Oklahoma State win.

It was Tylan Wallace vs. Erik Ezukanma trading blows at receiver, while SaRodorick Thompson and Dezmon Jackson were having career days on the ground.

It’s the final home game of the season for Texas Tech, and quarterback Tyler Shough will be well-equipped and prepared for the Cowboys, with expected ten games under his belt.

Although Texas Tech’s depth is a question, the star duo of Ezukanma and Thompson are not. The defense brings back the entire front seven, and key players in Adrian Frye and Eric Monroe lead the way in the secondary.

It would be a great performance for some seniors to go out on, and may be apart of keeping Wells job, if he can secure a win against an above average Big 12 team.
