Talented transfers hope to lead way for UNLV defense

UNLV was not very good at anything on defense last season, but the Rebels are hoping that another year in the system and some impact transfers can spark a turnaround on defense.

On the defensive line, USC transfer Connor Murphy is expected to lead the way up front. Murphy got an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19 and he is looking to make the most of it at UNLV. Joining Murphy up front will be Kolo Uasike, the senior defensive tackle.  Tavis Malakius is expected to be the other end on the side of Murphy.

The linebacker corps has a chance to be the best unit on the defense. The leading pass rusher from last season, Jacoby Windmon, is back and after being an honorable mention on the all-conference team, Windmon is looking to be even better this season.

Another big transfer is Kylan Wilborn, who is coming over from Arizona. Wilborn was a freshman All-American in 2017 and the Rebels are hoping that he can return to form. Adam Plant Jr and Vic Viramontes are going to round out the linebackers.

The secondary is going to return all four starters, which is a big plus for a defense that is going to need to improve. Aaron Lewis and Nohl Williams are the starters at corner and Bryce Jackson and Tre Caine will be back at safety. Caine and Jackson are the most talented players in the secondary and look for them to lead the unit this season.
