MEAC football season predictions for 2021

  • South Carolina State goes 2-1 against former MEAC teams

Although they are no longer in the MEAC, North Carolina A&T, FAMU, and Bethune-Cookman will each play one game against South Carolina State. In the 2019 season, SC State went 2-1 against these teams with wins against NC A&T and Bethune-Cookman while losing to FAMU. Things will play out the same way this season, but with the teams rearranged. They will beat FAMU and Bethune-Cookman but will lose against North Carolina A&T.

  • Howard has the top defense in the MEAC

Like I mentioned previously, the Howard Bison have a defense filled with talent that has the potential to have a big season. In addition to Elton Jean-Baptiste, they have fellow sophomore lineman Darrian Brokenburr, sophomore defensive back Ray Williams, and junior defensive back Rodney Dennard. This may be a long-shot prediction but if these guys along with the rest of their defense continue to develop, they have enough talent to be the best defense in the conference this season.

  • Norfolk State wins the MEAC

Despite finishing their last full season with a 5-7 overall record, the Norfolk State Spartans will be the favorites in the MEAC. They have arguably the best offense in the conference with All-MEAC tight end Shawn McFarland returning alongside Juwan Carter and Kevin Johnson.

In addition, they have a solid defense including defensive lineman Chris Myers who tied for the most sacks in the MEAC in 2019 as well as defensive backs Devyn Coles and Bobby Price who each were top 10 in passes defended with the former tying for the most interceptions. In addition, they add four-star transfer defensive back Tayvion Land from Liberty.
