New Mexico football hopes to carry late-season momentum into 2021
Can transfer QB get the Lobos’ offense going?
Schools like New Mexico are always on the lookout for high-profile transfers at any position, but especially quarterback. New Mexico might have hit the jackpot when it comes to transfer quarterbacks and that should help make its offense harder to defend.
Kentucky transfer Terry Wilson is slated to take over for the Lobos at quarterback and he brings a wealth of experience and dual-threat capabilities at the position. Wilson is a better runner than he is a passer, but not having to face SEC defenses will be a big plus for him. From a talent and leadership perspective, this was a home run get for New Mexico this offseason.
The running game will get better with Wilson at quarterback, but New Mexico also has two capable backs in the backfield to shoulder the load. Bobby Cole and Nate Jones are back and each had their moments last year. Expect bigger things in 2021 for this duo.
The receiving corps is going to get an SEC transfer as well, with CJay Boone joining the program this fall. Adding Boone to Andrew Erickson and Mannie Logan-Greene will make this offense more dangerous.
The offensive line is returning four starters and adding another Missouri transfer in Jack Buford to the mix was another great move.
Having Wilson at quarterback will work wonders for the offense and it should make the Lobos a more competitive team sooner rather than later.
