There have been few good times down in Itta Bena, Miss., since Willie Totten was throwing to Jerry “World” Rice. The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils have not had a winning season since 2012 and haven’t won more than two games since 2012.

This past spring, the Delta Devils went 1-3 (their one win was a forfeit). The offense this spring was terrible, and the defense was worse. However, there is hope in the Mississippi delta region. 2021 is the fourth season of the Vincent Dancy experience, and there seems to be hope on the horizon.

So far, Dancy has balanced the JUCO ranks, transfer portal, and high school recruits. Dancy has the daunting task of building the roster nearly from the ground up. Despite not winning a game on the field this spring, the Delta Devils showed promise, especially on defense.

The offense struggled this spring, which did the defense no favors. If there is anything from the spring that should give MVSU fans hope, it is the effort that the Delta Devils played with every game.

Although the score was lopsided against Jackson State, the Delta Devils got good pressure on their quarterbacks. The Delta Devils played Arkansas-Pine Bluff to the wire before losing a close one.

Can the Delta Devils find one win this fall? Here is a look at Mississippi Valley State’s 2021 fall season.
