Running game looks to carry Huskies offense in 2021

While they did not play last season, UConn did practice several times during the week and that should pay off in improved depth for the season, especially on offense.

At quarterback, Jack Zergiotis is back to lead the Huskies’ passing attack. Zergiotis was not spectacular during the 2019 season. He was shaky during his time in 2019, throwing for 11 interceptions and only nine touchdowns. Zergiotis will have the upper hand on the quarterback battle, but he will be pushed in fall camp by NC State transfer Micah Leon and 2019 backup Steven Krajewski.

The running game should be the focal point of the Huskies offense in 2021. Running back Keven Mensah is back in 2021 to try and earn his third straight 1,000-yard season. Robert Burns is transferring in from Miami and he is a bigger running back that should bring some physicality to the UConn offense.

The receiving corps is going to have some of their more experienced guys back from the 2019 team. Leading receiver Cam Ross is back, alongside Matt Drayton and Eli Jeffries. Jay Rose is an underrated weapon at tight end and brings experience.

The offensive line has a chance to be a real strength for the football team. Only two starters return from 2019, but all of these guys have had a chance to develop in the past year and they should be better this season.

How good this offense could be will probably come down to if the Huskies can get better and more consistent quarterback play.
