Vanderbilt Football: Commodores start first year of rebuild under new regime
QB development is going to be the key for Vandy offense in 2021
There is not a lot of good to say about the Vanderbilt offense in 2020, but quarterback Ken Seals was a freshman and showed some promise at certain points during the season.
Seals development is going to be the focal point of the offense for this season and it should be. Seals showed leadership as a freshman on a team that was void of a lot of it. He is accurate with the ball, but he did throw 10 interceptions and was not always consistent. He is the most talented player on the team and his development is going to be crucial for the next couple of seasons.
The running game should be better than it was in 2020 and that is going to be due to the transfer of Temple running back Re’Mahn Davis. Davis had a tremendous season for the Owls in 2019, rushing for 936 yards and 4.8 YPC. Ja’Veon Marlow will be a nice backup to Davis, but he has had trouble staying healthy during his time in Nashville.
The top three receivers on the team are all seniors and they are all back for the Commodores. Cam Johnson, Chris Pierce Jr, and Amir Abdur-Rahman bring a good amount of experience to the team and they all seemed to get better as Seals did as the season went on.
The passing game could be a strength of the team. The offensive line is going to be headlined by guys that are coming back after opting out of the 2020 season. Cole Clemens is back at left tackle and West Virginia transfer Junior Uzebu is going to be on the opposite side. This offense is going to go based on how much Seals develops under a new coordinator and the offensive line meshes.
