Big changes coming to Western Kentucky offense in 2021

After being rather pedestrian on the offensive side of the ball for the past couple of seasons, Western Kentucky is hoping to turn it all around and be one of the more prolific offenses in the conference. Hiring Zach Kittley to lead the offense is a start.

At quarterback, Houston Baptist transfer Bailey Zappe figures to be the new signal-caller for the Hilltoppers.

Zappe put up big numbers and was a multi-year starter at Houston Baptist, but this is going to be a sizeable step up in competition. Zappe threw for 1,833 yards, 15 touchdowns, and one interception in his games last season, including a 567-yard effort against Texas Tech.

The running game is going to be looking to replace Gaej Walker and the first place to look will be guys that played last year in Jakairi Moses and C.J Jones. While those two guys might get the first crack at the job, South Dakota transfer Adam Cofield is looking to get some carries as well.

The wide receiver room is going to have a brand new look as well and it is going to be even more guys from Houston Baptist. Jerreth Sterns, Josh Sterns, and Ben Ratzlaff are all coming in and hoping to contribute right away. Other guys to look out for will be Mitchell Tinsley, Craig Burt Jr and Dayton Wade are looking to step up.

The offensive line returns their two starting offensive tackles, but the three guys inside are going to be new. Right guard Boe Wilson is transferring in from Nebraska and Cameron Stage is coming in from Bowling Green.

How good the offense is going to depend on how the new starters fit in, but with so many of them having already played together, it could be a seamless transition.
