Western Kentucky Football: Can offense catch up with the defense?
Tough non-conference schedule awaits WKU
Western Kentucky is going to have to navigate a tough non-conference schedule if it is going to make another trip to a bowl game. There are still plenty of opportunities for wins however and this is a program that usually knows how to bounce back.
- Game 1: UT Martin (W)- WKU should start the season off with an easy win vs UT Martin.
- Game 2: At Army (L)- Army returns a lot of talent in 2021 and they are always a tough out due to running the option to perfection.
- Game 3: Indiana (L)- The Hoosiers are looking to build off of their 2020 season and this will be too tough of a game for WKU, even at home.
- Game 4: At Michigan State (L)- The Spartans are still in the midst of a rebuild, but I think they will be able to beat the Hilltoppers at home.
- Game 5: UTSA (L)- This will be a close game, but the Roadrunners are bringing back the more experienced team.
- Game 6: At Old Dominion (W)- The losing streak will end with a win over the Monarchs.
- Game 7: At FIU (W)- FIU is going to have a bounce-back season, but I like the Hilltoppers here.
- Game 8: Charlotte (W)- WKU should be building momentum with these wins after a tough start to the season.
- Game 9: Middle Tennessee (W)- The Blue Raiders will have a solid offense, but I like Western Kentucky to get the win at home.
- Game 10: At Rice (L)- This is an even matchup, with both teams sporting good defenses, but I like the Owls in this one.
- Game 11: FAU (W)- WKU will get to bowl eligibility with a win over the Owls.
- Game 12: At Marshall (L)- Marshall is the favorite in the C-USA and they will be too much for the Hilltoppers at home.
Final Record: 6-6, 5-3 C-USA
If WKU can survive the early part of their schedule, I like their chances to be able to get to another bowl game.
Hilltopper fans usually expect more from their teams, but considering their schedule, this is not the worst outcome for a team that is going to have two new coordinators and a lot of new faces on both sides of the ball.
