How will FAU football fare in 2021?

FAU is going to have an opportunity that most of the smaller schools in Florida dream about and that’s getting to face one of the big three football programs. The Owls open the season on the road in Gainesville to take on the Gators and that will be a big opportunity for the program.

  • Game 1: at Florida (L) — This is a big chance for the Owls, but Florida likely wins big here.
  • Game 2: Georgia Southern (L) — The Eagles are losing a lot of production, but I think their option attack will keep the Owls’ defense off balance.
  • Game 3: Fordham (W) — After two tough games to start the season, FAU should get a win in their easiest game this season.
  • Game 4: at Air Force (L) — Another game against an option team will result in another loss for the Owls.
  • Game 5: FIU (W) — FAU should get a win over their conference rivals, who are also looking for a quarterback.
  • Game 6: at UAB (L) — A road game against one of the conference’s favorites will result in another loss for the Owls.
  • Game 7: at Charlotte (W) — Charlotte will be a tough offense to stop, but I think the Owls can do it on the road.
  • Game 8: UTEP (W) — UTEP surprised some with three wins last season, but I think it might just be a blip on the radar.
  • Game 9: Marshall (L) — Like UAB, Marshall is among the conference favorites and will have a really good defense to stop FAU’s pedestrian offense.
  • Game 10: at Old Dominion (W) — This won’t be an easy win, but I think FAU’s defense is the best unit on the field.
  • Game 11: at Western Kentucky (L) — This will be a low-scoring game, but I think Western Kentucky gets the win at home.
  • Game 12: Middle Tennessee (W) — FAU finds a way to end their season with a win and get to bowl eligibility.

Prediction: 6-6, 5-3 C-USA

This is a tricky schedule for FAU. They have some tough road games and play the two perceived favorites in the C-USA in UAB and Marshall. It will be tough to get to bowl eligibility, but I think if the Owls find a consistent quarterback, the record could be better.
