How will Southern fare in 2021?

  • Game 1: Troy (W) — Troy does not have a very good run defense. Expect the Jaguars to take full advantage of that.
  • Game 2: Miles (Pete Richardson Classic) (W) — The Golden Bears of Miles are of the best football teams in HBCU football. This could be a very competitive game with the Jags taking the close win.
  • Game 3: McNeese State (W) — Don’t let the McNeese State Cowboys record in their 2021 spring season fool you, this will be a fun game to watch.
  • Game 4: Mississippi Valley State (W) — Mississippi Valley State is arguably the worst team in the SWAC. This will be a comfortable win for Southern.
  • Game 5: Texas Southern (W) — Another SWAC team that is not very good, the Texas Southern Tigers have lost nine straight against Southern with their last win coming in 2011.
  • Game 6: University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (W) — The Jaguars avenge their spring loss to the UAPB Golden Lions.
  • Game 7: Prarie View A&M (W) — Close game through three quarters but the Jaguars pull away late.
  • Game 8: Alcorn State (L) — A rematch of the 2019 SWAC Championship Game plays out similarly with the Alcorn State Braves taking the win in a much closer game than last time.
  • Game 9: Florida A&M (L) — This could be a sleeper game of the year candidate with the Rattlers coming away with the win.
  • Game 10: Grambling State (Bayou Classic) (W) — Might not be as dominant of a win as it was in their spring matchup but a win nonetheless.

Prediction: 8-2, 6-2 SWAC
