Oregon Football: Top 3 breakout candidates for Ducks in 2021
By Dante Pryor
3. Justin Flowe
Justin Flowe staying in the Pac-12 footprint and signing with Oregon was a big deal. There was a lot to love about the California native. Flowe was a day one starter at the collegiate level — he had ideal size and speed — and just needed a bit of polish to his game.
Unfortunately for Flowe and the Ducks, a torn meniscus shortened his freshman season to just one game. He is healthy and is ready to make good on being the top-rated inside linebacker in the 2020 class and the sixth-ranked high school prospect in the country.
Flowe has plenty of size and strength in front of him to keep blockers away. Popo Aumavae and Brandon Dorius are the top two interior linemen who will keep Flowe clean.
With 6-foot-3, 250 pound Noah Sewell next to Flowe at the other inside backer spot, it will not be easy to decide who to block.
Flowe’s ability to stuff the run, blitz, and drop in coverage makes the Ducks and new defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter formidable and one of the best defenses in the conference. With so much talent around him, expect Flowe to have an all-conference and possibly All-American sort of season in Eugene.
