Chase Garbers hopes to raise ceiling of California Football

Gone are the days of Cal dominating on the offensive side of the ball with quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers and Jared Goff. Cal has not been able to do much of anything on this side of the ball and it is imperative for the Golden Bears to get better on offense.

At quarterback is senior Chase Garbers, who can be an effective QB when he is healthy and he has pulled some big upsets so far in his time at Cal.

Garbers threw for nearly 800 yards and six touchdowns in the conference’s abbreviated schedule. He is going to have to stay healthy and show that he can carry this football team because there is not a backup with any experience this time around.

The running game is hoping that Christopher Brooks is able to stay healthy this season, as he was limited to just 21 carries. In 2019, Brooks rushed for 914 yards and was a crucial part of the offense. Last year’s leading rusher, Damien Moore, is also returning and he and Brooks could form a nice duo for Cal.

One of the things that has plagued this offense has been the inability to stretch the field. They have some talented receivers in Nikko Remigio and Kekoa Crawford that have experience, but there are some young guys in Jeremiah Hunter and J.Michael Sturdivant that they hope can change the dynamics of the offense. The offensive line is going to return four of the five starters and in total, the line has seven players with 98 combined starts.

This is the unit that is going to get the most scrutiny and for good reason. Cal needs to be much better all-around on offense for this team to reach a bowl game.
