Nevada Football: Carson Strong could lead Wolf Pack to Mountain West title
Transfers hope to make big difference for Wolf Pack defense
Nevada has to hope that its defense is going to continue to improve in 2021. It took some steps forward last season, but it feels as if there is another gear that it can find and take this team even further.
The defensive line is going to be led by All-MWC performer Sam Hammond is back on the edge and he is going to help improve a pass rush that was not the conference’s best last season. Zak Mahannah and Dom Peterson are going to be leading the interior and the other end is going to be Kameron Toomer. Nevada only had 15 sacks in the regular season and that number is going to have to go up this season.
The linebackers have an All-MWC performer in Lawson Hall and he is joined by senior Daiyan Henley. Hall should have another excellent season and Henley is a guy that the Wolf Pack rely on.
The secondary might be the biggest question mark on the defense. The Wolf Pack are hoping that South Florida transfer Bentlee Sanders can make a big impact at corner and he will be joined by sophomore AJ King. At safety, Nevada returns both Tyson Williams and Christian Swint.
This is a defense that has been trending upward the last couple of years and they are hoping that they can put it all together. Experience won’t be an issue and if the defense can take a step forward, this team could be in for a special season.
