Florida State State Football: How much will Seminoles improve in 2021?
Milton hopes to lead the charge for Seminoles on offense
Florida State football has been dismal on offense for the past couple of seasons, but the Noles did start to find an identity with running the football late in the season and it will be interesting to see how they build upon that with presumably a new quarterback.
Milton is set to take over the reigns at the quarterback position and all eyes are going to be on his health. If he can stay healthy and resemble his 2018 form, then it is very reasonable for Florida State to get to a bowl game and maybe even pull an upset or two. If he is not healthy or not the same player, then it could be a struggle for this offense. At worst, I think Milton can improve on the Seminoles passing game, which was bad last season, and make them a better overall offense.
Florida State found themselves running the ball pretty well later in the season, but some of that was due to last season’s starting quarterback Jordan Travis. The Seminoles really need to find a consistent player in the backfield to make this a formidable offense and the first guy that should get the first crack is last season’s second-leading rusher Jashaun Corbin. If not Corbin, then Lawrance Toafili could be the guy in the backfield.
The wide receiver group has no proven playmakers right now and they need someone to emerge to make life easier on the new quarterback. Ontaria Wilson is set to be the top receiver after leading the Seminoles last season. Look for guys like Keyshawn Helton and freshman Malik McClain to round out the receivers and Jordan Wilson to be the guy at tight end. The much-maligned offensive line for Florida State still has a little ways to go, but they do return all five of their starters and should improve at least a little bit in year two of this offensive system.
