FSU defense looks for major improvement in 2021

Florida State has gone from being feared on the defensive side of the ball, to being very bad on defense. Norvell thought that talent was an issue and that is why FSU has decided to bring in five transfers on that side of the ball.

On the defensive line, Florida State is losing Marvin Wilson, but they are hoping that two SEC transfers can bolster their front seven and their pass rush.

Jermaine Johnson recorded five sacks in seven games for the Georgia Bulldogs last season and he should be the top pass rusher for FSU this season. On the other end, South Carolina transfer Keir Thomas is going to be expected to make an impact as a pass rusher. Look for Robert Cooper and Dennis Briggs Jr to man the inside and help turn this front four around.

At linebacker, Amari Gainer and Emmett Rice are both slated to return and start and both guys are going to be looked to to turn this defense around. Look for Stephen Dix Jr to also get in the mix and play plenty of snaps as well. The secondary is going to be missing Asante Samuel Jr and Hamsah Nasirildeen and their experience is going to be missed.

At corner, Jarvis Brownlee Jr and Brandon Moore to man the outside corners and for Jammie Robinson to be the nickel. Other guys that should get time at corner are Akeem Dent, Jarrian Jones and Meiko Dotson are some talented guys that are going to factor in this season. At safety, Renardo Green and Travis Jay are likely to start, with Sidney Williams and Brendan Gant to also contribute.
