Liberty returns 10 starters on one of the nation’s top offenses

Liberty was one of the highest-scoring teams in 2020, averaging 38 PPG and having a top-10 rushing attack. As crazy as it sounds, I think there is a chance that Liberty could be even better this season.

Liberty is going to have one of the nation’s best and most electrifying players in Willis at quarterback. Willis posted absurd numbers last season, 2,260 yards passing and nearly 1,000 yards rushing. Willis is a threat whenever he pulls the ball and decides to run and he can stretch the field with his cannon of an arm. There is not much more I can say about Willis, except that he might not have enough big-game opportunities to make a serious run at the Heisman.

The running game will be led by Willis at quarterback, but the Flames have a strong set of backs that can complement Willis very well. Last year’s leading rusher Joshua Mack is returning and he had 797 yards and four touchdowns a season ago. Utah transfer T.J Green is going to push for some time and I think he will be a good compliment to this offense.

The receiving corps is going to be one of the best in the country. Liberty’s top three pass catchers return and they are in for an even better 2021 season. DJ Stubbs, Kevin Shaa, and Demario Douglas form a formidable trio and they are a great set of targets for Willis to throw to.

Two more receivers to watch out for will be North Texas transfer Austin Ogunmakin and Junior College transfer Stetson Moore. The offensive line has some standout players in center Thomas Sargeant and tackle Tristan Schultz. The Flames bring back everyone on the line and they are a very solid group.
