Will Alcorn State reclaim SWAC title?

  • Game 1: North Carolina Central (MEAC/SWAC Challenge) (W) — The North Carolina Central Eagles defense takes a huge hit with reigning SWAC Defensive Player of the Year Darius Royster and All-MEAC defensive back Bryan Mills no longer with the team. Alcorn State takes advantage of the Eagles’ losses getting the win.
  • Game 2: Northwestern State (W) — The Northwestern State Demons have not finished a season with a .500 record since 2014 and have not finished above .500 since 2008. Not going to be a walk in the park for the Braves as the Demons have a good passing attack.
  • Game 3: South Alabama (W) — The South Alabama Jaguars have won three straight games against SWAC opponents including a 45-0 shutout against Alabama A&M. However, this will be the first time the Jaguars face a SWAC opponent who had a winning record in the prior season.
  • Game 4: University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (L) — The Braves open up their SWAC schedule on the road against reigning SWAC West division champions UAPB. The Golden Lions prove why they should not be overlooked by beating the Braves on their home field.
  • Game 5: Grambling State (W) — The Braves begin a four-game stretch following their homecoming matchup against the Grambling State Tigers. They go on the road with a bang getting the win.
  • Game 6: Mississippi Valley State (W) — The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils are arguably the worst team in the SWAC. The Braves win comfortably.
  • Game 7: Texas Southern (W) — A second straight comfortable road win for the Braves.
  • Game 8: Southern (L) — A close game on the Jaguars’ home field. Could go either way but the Jaguars take the win.
  • Game 9: Bethune-Cookman (L) — The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats are a sleeper team in their first season in the SWAC. They show why getting the upset win over Alcorn State.
  • Game 10: Prairie View A&M (W) — The Braves defeat the Prairie View A&M Panthers in their final home game of the season.
  • Game 11: Jackson State (W) — Another toss-up game for Alcorn State in their final game of the season on the road.

Prediction: 8-3, 5-3 SWAC
