Ole Miss has nowhere to go but up on defense

As good as the Rebels were on offense last season, they were equally as dreadful on defense. There is not much to take from the defense from last year, but they should be better by default this season.

On the defensive line, there’s going to be a mix of transfers and new guys to help the Rebels get better. JUCO transfer Isaiah Iton looks to make an impact, as well as Jamond Gordon. Guys like Tywone Malone, Tariqious Tisdale, and Quentin Bivens are going to get plenty of looks as well.

At linebacker, two of the team’s top tacklers are returning in Jacques Jones and Lakia Henry, but both of those guys need to show improvement in all facets of the game. Sam Williams is hoping to provide a little bit of pass rush to the Rebels defense that sorely needs it.

The strength of the defense might be in the secondary. Georgia transfer Otis Reese is going to be moving around to different positions and will bring some much-needed playmaking ability and athleticism to the defense. AJ Finley is back at safety and he will be joined by Jake Springer, a Navy transfer. At cornerback, Keidron Smith and Deane Leonard are two seniors hoping to make an impact.

Improvement is needed and how much could determine how much this team wins this season.
