Things won’t get much easier for BYU after its first loss of the season against Pac-12 contender Utah as Arizona State also takes the trip to Provo to get a shot at the Cougars.

The Sun Devils’ defense was really bad last year but I don’t expect that trend to continue with eight starters back and Antonio Pierce leading the unit. I see them taking a big step in the right direction this season to catch up to an offense that ranked 12th in scoring and 20th in yards per game a year ago.

Arizona State holds BYU in check and hangs on for a one-touchdown victory.

Final Score: Arizona State 28, BYU 21 (1-2)

BYU gets a bit of a break in Week 4 against one of the worst the AAC has to offer as South Florida comes to town off a 1-8 season and 0-7 record in conference action.

The Bulls return nine starters to an offense that finished 90th in the country in yards per game and 102nd in scoring and six starters are back on the 94th-ranked defense. Things aren’t going to get much better for Jeff Scott and Co. in year two and I think this one could get out of hand.

Kalani Sitake has his team prepared and they win easily.

Final Score: USF 14, BYU 35 (2-2)
