TCU Football: Will Horned Frogs be pretenders or contenders in 2021?
With improved QB play, this could be best TCU offense in years
Like I mentioned above, TCU is one of the more dangerous teams when they have good quarterback play because you can almost always count on their defense being solid. However, it is not just the quarterback play that that should have Horned Frog fans excited. This is a talented group of skill guys that’s going to make this offense a tough one to stop.
Max Duggan has started 19 games for the Horned Frogs and he has shown great improvement since he became TCU’s QB1. Duggan is a dual-threat who threw for nearly 1,800 yards and had over 500 yards rushing. He is one of the more dangerous quarterbacks in the Big 12 and I think he should be getting as much, or more, love in the conference than guys like Brock Purdy at Iowa State or Spencer Sanders at Oklahoma State.
At running back, former five-star recruit Zach Evans is ready to take on a bigger workload for TCU this season. He is the most talented back in the TCU offense, but he is not the only one who has talent. Darwin Barlow and Keandre Miller are two talented young players who both had 100-yard rushing performances last season.
Paired with Duggan’s dual-threat ability, this is a dangerous and deep running game.
The passing game has some dangerous targets as well. Taye Barber, Quentin Johnston, and Derius Davis form one of the more fearsome receiving trios in the conference and they really open up the offense. Another guy to look out for is Blair Conwright, who is also a talented receiver as well. This is a deep group of pass-catchers who will make this TCU offense dynamic.
The offensive line is going to return three starters and that is the unit that is going to need to improve the most this season.
