1. This gives Texas A&M a 3-4 year starter

Don’t get me wrong, Texas A&M would have likely found success with Zach Calzada under center as well. He’s a talented quarterback, but he’s not quite the athlete that Haynes King is.

In fact, King has been likened to Johnny Manziel in the way that he controls the offense and has a knack for feeling pressure and escaping it. He’s a multi-faceted quarterback who keeps defenses on their toes. He can pass the ball 40-50 yards down the field or he can burn you with his legs. There’s no easy way to defend him under center.

And this makes him dangerous for the long haul.

Year one with King will have its growing pains, but years two and three will be that much better. And I honestly think that the ceiling of King is higher than that of Kellen Mond who is now with the Minnesota Vikings.

King has a strong, accurate arm, command of the offense and playbook, respect of his teammates, and now the starting job.

I said a few months ago that he was the best option if the Aggies want to contend in 2021, and I still believe that. And he’s going to be the starter for a while which is bad news for the rest of the SEC.
