Ranking NFL careers of Heisman winners: 19. Reggie Bush, RB, USC (vacated)

Say what you want about the existence of Reggie Bush’s Heisman Trophy win, his NFL career is undeniable. He was a consensus number-one overall pick that surprisingly went second (so, consensus with everyone except the Texans). Bush was one of the greatest dual threats in the history of college football. He looked like Marshall Faulk in his prime for USC. They had this aura around them thanks to Bush’s ability.

Bush had a decent rookie season with the Saints that included more than 700 receiving yards, but it seemed like he got worse every year under Sean Payton. He had 29 touchdowns in five seasons along Bourbon St. before he went to play for the Miami Dolphins. There, he showed he had the ability to be the top guy. He ran for 1,086 yards and six touchdowns in that first season in South Florida. He came close to 1,000 yards again in his second year in Miami. Bush eventually went to Detroit and broke 1,500 total yards for the first time in his career.

So, how do we assess Reggie Bush’s career? Many believe he was a bust, but was he really? He had an interesting career with the Saints, and he definitely wasn’t worth the second-overall pick, but when comparing his career to other Heisman Trophy winners, it wasn’t terrible.
