Ranking NFL careers of Heisman winners: 3. Tim Brown, WR, Notre Dame

Tim Brown is another Heisman winner from a strange position. Brown is one of three receivers to win the award, joining Desmond Howard and this year’s winner DeVonta Smith. Brown was the first receiver to win the award, and he needed to have one helluva season to break the mold.

He was so much more than a “receiver”. Brown is one of the best returners we’ve seen. He one time returned back-to-back punts for touchdown. His time at Notre Dame was legendary. Then, he went to the NFL and put together one of the best receiver careers ever.

Tim Brown went to the Raiders, where he played all but one season of his 17-year career. He broke the 1,000 yard mark for nine straight seasons. He finished his career with just under 15,000 yards receiving. His one touchdown with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave him 100 for his career. In different years, he led the NFL in receptions, punt returns, and kick returns. He was dynamic, to say the least.

Brown is an all-time great and a deserved Hall of Famer. He’s seventh on the career receptions and receiving yards list. This while playing with more quarterbacks than we can count. Brown’s career is hard to top, and he gives a good name to outside-the-box Heisman winners.
