How good can the defensive line be this season?

This defensive line is as good as Clemson has ever had. Myles Murphy and Bryan Bresee had to play more than expected because of injuries last season. The sophomores are a year wiser and better for playing last year as well.

Couple them with Tyler Davis and Xavier Thomas, and you have a deep and talented defensive line rotation. Keep an eye on Tre Williams upfront as well. Williams is a load at over 300 pounds, but he is quick off the ball and can give the Tigers some pass rush.

This is the first time since the Clelin Ferell, Christian Wilkins era that defensive coordinator Brent Venables can get pressure with his front four and not have to worry about blitzing to get pressure on the quarterback. That is trouble for opposing offenses.

The Tigers are experienced at linebacker with veterans James Skalski and Baylon Spector. Next to them is a five-star hybrid Trenton Simpson, a bigger, faster version of Isaiah Simmons. If Simpson flashes, offenses are in trouble.

Venables and the defensive staff feel this is the most talented secondary in a long time. Veteran Nolan Turner returns to anchor the secondary while junior Andrew Booth Jr. locks down one cornerback spot.
