2. Miami Hurricanes

Key returning players: D’Eriq King, Bubba Bolden, Charleston Rambo (transfer), Tyrique Stevenson (transfer)

Key losses: Brevin Knight, Quincy Roche, Jaelan Phillips

Season Outlook: This season’s success or failure falls squarely on the shoulders (or knee) of graduate quarterback D’Eriq King. The Houston transfer was exactly what the Hurricanes needed in terms of consistent play and student leadership, two things the ‘Canes did not have previously.

King suffered an ACL injury during the bowl game last season and is on the road to recovery. It is up to offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee to gameplan for the possibility of King being less mobile this season.

Miami does have some intriguing pieces offensively. Oklahoma transfer Charleston Rambo is an explosive deep-threat that Miami sorely missed last season. Cam’Ron Harris is a steady slasher at running back that can take some of the running responsibilities from King.

Jaylon Knighton is an explosive, versatile running back who can line up anywhere in the formation. The offensive line has had some injuries this summer, so health might be an issue this season.

The strength of the defense this season is the back end. Veterans Bubba Bolden and Al Blades, Jr. are joined by Georgia transfer corner Tyrique Stevenson. The secondary is at least six deep with upperclassmen.

They will have to play well until a pass-rusher emerges from a talented but inexperienced group of defensive ends.
