Sam Howell is a really good quarterback and despite some of his struggles last night, he’s going to be picked early in the NFL draft.

But it does seem like this North Carolina football team was overrated, mostly in part, due to Howell. This team is filled with talent and ranks 17th according to the team talent rankings put together by 247 sports for 2021.

And North Carolina football has a head coach with national championship experience in Mack Brown. Plus, the Tar Heels were fresh off a berth in the Orange Bowl last season.

However, there were some significant losses on the offensive side of the ball. Josh Downs was big-time last night and Chandler looks like the real deal, but this offense has some question marks.

The offensive line needs to do a better job in the running game and protecting Howell and more weapons need to emerge in the passing game.

Upsets are commonplace in college football and North Carolina football was the first victim. The Heels still have a shot to achieve plenty this season, but now, they are trailing the Virginia Tech Hokies in the ACC Coastal Division, which is a less than ideal way to start the season.
