Who knew we would be talking kickers after the first game of the year? Well, Gabe Brkic is no ordinary kicker as his Oklahoma fans and teammates will tell you. Brkic has carved out a great career at Oklahoma and had a major impact on this game.

The senior kicker connected on three field goals that came from 50+ yards. He was also able to tack on another one from 26 yards out.

The importance of making all three of these 50+ yarders relates to the field position battle. If he misses any of those, Tulane is set up nicely and can get into Oklahoma territory with just one or two plays.

Brkic preserved field position and was perfect on the day…..until the 4th quarter. With Oklahoma up 40-28, Brkic had a chance to hit a 31-yard field goal that would have pushed the game out of reach. After his incredible day, he missed this seemingly easy one and set up Tulane to bring the deficit to five points.

If Tulane comes back and wins, there is a chance that Brkic’s historic afternoon gets overshadowed by his final miss. Thankfully, he will sleep soundly tonight knowing that he contributed 12 points on a day where Oklahoma needed all of them.
