College Football Rankings 2021: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 2
By Zach Bigalke
Texas A&M came out in Week 1 and asserted their position as a real threat not just in the SEC West but also for a spot in the College Football Playoff this season. It was hardly a perfect outing, and it was just Kent State on the other sideline, but the Aggies still made an argument for top-four status in this week’s AP Top 25 as they downed the Golden Flashes 41-10 on Saturday.
Haynes King had his issues, throwing three interceptions in the win, but he also went 21-of-33 for 292 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The running game was even more impressive, as both Devon Achane and Isaiah Spiller broke triple digits in rushing yardage. By the end of the game, the Aggies racked up nearly 600 total yards of offense in the rout.
Just as important to Saturday’s success was the performance of the Texas A&M defense. Going up against a Kent State team that ranked first overall in the FBS last season with an average of 606 yards per game, the Aggies held the Golden Flashes to only 336 yards. They also forced two Dustin Crum interceptions to run away with the win.
Entering the weekend at No. 6, the Aggies will bump up a few spots in this week’s AP Top 25. Now they turn their attention to a showdown of former Big 12 schools when Texas A&M hosts Colorado in Week 2.
