For teams around the country, the hope entering 2021 was that Alabama might backpedal a bit after winning another national championship. The Crimson Tide came into the new season with a heavily depleted offense, from departed starting quarterback Mac Jones to a gutted receiving corps to a thinned-out offensive line.

None of that mattered, as Bryce Young proved that Alabama can retool and reload at just about any position rather than needing a real rebuilding process. Even their kicking game, long a source of distress, looked golden as Will Reichard went 3-for-3 on field goal attempts and 5-for-5 on extra points.

In every facet of the game, Alabama came out and proved that they belong at the top of the AP Top 25 until further notice. The Crimson Tide are even more safe in their spot when you take into account everything else that happened around the Top 25 over the long opening weekend.

Nick Saban’s crew now turns its attention to their home opener in Week 2 against FCS Mercer secure in the knowledge that they will remain No. 1 for another week. Their first SEC test comes in two weeks when the Tide go to Gainesville to take on Florida at the Swamp.
