1. Ole Miss looks like a contender

Am I ready to buy all the Ole Miss stock after Monday night? You bet I am.

Heading into the game, I was interested to see how the defense looked and how the team fared without Lane Kiffin on the sidelines and it was safe to say that both answers were “very well.”

The defense was horrid last season but seems to have taken a big leap, holding Louisville to 355 total yards and Malik Cunningham struggled, completing just 22-of-37 passes and throwing two picks. Some garbage time touchdowns were added so that’s why the Cardinals finished with 24 points, but the defense looked really solid overall.

The Rebels were a defense away from being a really scary team last season and the offense showed that it hasn’t taken a step back this year with over 550 yards and 43 points.

The loss of Elijah Moore didn’t hurt as Dontario Drummond stepped up, the struggles of Jerrion Ealy didn’t hurt because Snoop Conner stepped up, and Corral looked just as good this season without his favorite target from a year ago.

Ole Miss looks very complete this year. I’m leaning toward contender instead of pretender.
