Big 12 Football: Week 1 Power Rankings
Record in previous 5 games: 4-1

It is tough to evaluate TCU based on one game, as the Horned Frogs played the weakest opponent of the weekend in Duquesne. But, they took care of business with a 45-3 shortened win. Yes, I mean literally shortened as the coaches both agreed to play 12 minute quarters after halftime.
Regardless, TCU features a fierce defense that is going to cause problems for most of the conference. Since joining the Big 12, TCU has never ranked lower than 4th in the conference in total defense. They have also had a top-two defense within the conference in four of the past five seasons.
Gary Patterson is an experienced coach, who is finally dealing with an experienced team again. Don’t be surprised if TCU pulls off wins against teams within the top 3 of this list, as they will match up well with all of them in 2021.
Next Game: vs California
Record in previous 5 games: 4-1
Total offense rank: 1st
Total defense rank: 8th
The only Big 12 team to face a top 25 opponent was the Longhorns, and they did not disappoint. Hudson Card had an outstanding debut, finishing with three touchdowns and no turnovers against Louisiana.
Bijan Robinson has Heisman potential, showing that he is a threat as a runner and a receiver. He finished the day with 24 touches and 176 yards and two touchdowns (1 rushing, 1 receiving). Robinson will get plenty of more touches in 2021 and will have plenty of highlights in a conference that leans on offense.
The front seven had themselves a day with four sacks, a forced fumble, and constant pressure throughout the afternoon.
Steve Sarkisian could not have scripted a better start to his career at Texas. This team should be a lot of fun to watch with great playmakers and an improved defense.
