2. Iowa State has something in backup quarterback Hunter Dekkers

Brock Purdy wasn’t on his game against Iowa. He looked battered and defeated throughout the game and the second tipped interception of the game seemed to really kick him while he was down. He’s a solid quarterback and will be Iowa State’s QB1 moving forward, but the Cyclones found something in redshirt freshman backup Hunter Dekkers.

The second-year quarterback came in for Purdy in the second half and put up some good numbers and nearly engineered an unthinkable late comeback.

In fact, Dekkers completed 11-of-16 passes for 114 yards and a beautiful touchdown toss to Tarique Milton from 13 yards out. He out-did Purdy on Saturday afternoon and really stole the show late and if Matt Campbell let the offense continue to move the ball in the fourth instead of attempting a field goal to pull within a touchdown, the Cyclones may have scored again.

Dekkers is going to have to wait his turn, but the Cyclones have to feel good about life after Purdy because the former four-star looks like a solid talent.
