No question Ducks are a contender

Forget about Georgia over Clemson last Saturday, or even Montana beating Washington — the most impressive win of the 2021 college football season now belongs to Oregon.

While Georgia’s win was certainly impressive, it was on a neutral field, not on the road. It was also the biggest win for Oregon football, since right before its last meeting with Ohio State, which was the Rose Bowl win over Florida State and Jameis Winston.

All offseason, Oregon was talked about as a potential playoff contender. The quarterback position was one of the question marks and despite the talent, the Ducks had something to prove which is just part of being in the Pac-12 right now.

But with every other team in the conference cheering on the Ducks, Oregon announced itself a College Football Playoff contender, as well as a top-5 team.

The defense wasn’t perfect but Ohio State might have the best pass offense in America. Oregon held the Buckeyes under 30 at home and got four fourth-down stops. Four.

That was the difference in the game. Brown and the Ducks took advantage of their scoring opportunities and Ohio State didn’t.

It’s also why, just like Georgia, Oregon is an early frontrunner for the playoff and now, with a very strong resume, all the Ducks need to do is keep winning following a signature win in Week 2.
