Oregon Football: 3 Hot takes from Ducks road win against Ohio State
By Dante Pryor
When Steve Addazio was the head coach at Boston College, his old boss, Urban Meyer, was nosing around practice one day. Meyer was watching the quarterbacks and asked, “who’s that kid? He’s a good-looking athlete.” That was a young Anthony Brown.
When Brown entered the transfer portal, he was seen by many as the “other” quarterback when Jamie Newman chose Georgia over Oregon. After two season-ending injuries, Brown became mostly forgotten.
When he got to Oregon, Brown lost out to Tyler Shough at the start of last season. However, Brown eventually took the job from Tyler Shough, who transferred to Texas Tech.
Brown showed against the Buckeyes; he is a great quarterback for Joe Moorhead’s RPO-based system. Moorhead’s system requires a quarterback who can read and decide quickly. Brown has shown the ability to do both.
Brown is not super flashy, but he is a good decision maker and proved that he knows who to get the ball to and when to get the ball there. In fact, Brown plays a lot like former Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley.
Both maximize their talent and make plays. Brown plays opposite one of the best defenses in the country, behind one of the best offensive lines in the country and next to one of the five best running backs.
Brown is the perfect complementary piece to lead Oregon to the Playoff.
