Heisman Candidate No.1: Bryce Young, QB Alabama

After a stellar performance in a season-opening win over Miami that included 344 passing yards and four touchdowns, including a 94-yarder, Alabama’s Bryce Young took the top spot last week.

Rattler was the preseason favorite for the Heisman after his incredible year last year. Many people think he could be a top pick in the NFL draft too. But Young, a fellow former five-star recruit, grabbed the early lead with his breakout performance against Miami.

And even though Alabama essentially had a bye week (hosting Mercer) Young, like Rattler, was as solid as he needed to be throwing 227 yards and three touchdowns. He’s also completed 70 percent of his throws and hasn’t thrown an interception.

Young will also get a chance to make another early statement in the Heisman race with a strong showing against Florida. The Crimson Tide will head to the Swamp on Saturday afternoon, in what’s easily the biggest game of the week.

If Young shines in Gainesville, as he did in Week 1 against Miami, he will have an even firmer grip on the top spot of the 2021 Heisman trophy race.
