3. Michael Mayer leads Irish in receiving again

Michael Mayer is super talented. There really is no other way to say it. It is really hard to find a better all around tight end in the country than No. 87 for the Irish. Mayer really can do it all. He can block, run, and also be a huge threat in the passing game.

If you did not know and you watched Mayer play for the first time you would think he would be in his senior year, or least his junior year. Nope, Mayer is only in his second year with Notre Dame.

The most likely scenario is after his junior year next season Mayer moves on and heads to the NFL. In the meantime have to take advantage and be lucky that the college football world gets to watch this special talent in Mayer play for the time being during his college career.

In both games this year Michael Mayer was Jack Coan’s favorite target. In week one Mayer finished the game with nine receptions for 120 yards, and a touchdown. Last week against Toledo he had seven receptions for 81 yards, and two touchdowns with one of them being the game-winning score for the Irish.

Mayer will continue his streak of leading the Irish in receiving to three weeks in a row after Saturday. Must be nice to know that whoever is at quarterback between Jack Coan and Tyler Buchner that you have a guy like Mayer on your side.
