Miami Football: 3 takeaways from ugly loss to Michigan State
1. Manny Diaz needs to be on the hot seat
It might only be the start of the third season for Manny Diaz at Miami, but the question needs to be asked whether he is the right man to be the head coach for the program. The team continues to play undisciplined football and they have not improved at all since he arrived as the head coach in 2019.
The defense has fallen off in a big way, the team makes the same mistakes every week and whenever Miami plays a big-time team like Alabama or Clemson, they are outclassed in every way.
This was supposed to be the most experienced and talented team that Miami has had in some time, but any preseason goals that the Hurricanes had are now gone. Michigan State is in the second year under Mel Tucker and they looked to be better coached than Miami. The way that Miami looks is inexcusable and it is time to start seriously questioning Diaz.
In theory, there is still plenty of season left for Miami and they have not played a conference game, but this is set up to be a rough season for the Hurricanes.
Diaz survived bad losses to FIU, Georgia Tech, and Duke his first season, but he might not be able to make it out of 2021 unless there is a dramatic turnaround.
