Best teams to never make CFB Playoffs: 13. Oregon, 2019

The Oregon Ducks got off to about as bad a start as you can get in the 2019 season. The Ducks lost a close game in their first appearance of the season against Auburn. While it wasn’t what they were hoping for, the Ducks went on to win nine games in a row. In the process, they were ridiculously explosive. For example, they absolutely destroyed Nevada by 71 points. And no, that isn’t a typo.

Ultimately, the Ducks had destiny in their own hands but couldn’t capitalize on it.

After grabbing those nine wins, the Ducks laid a major egg against unranked Arizona State. It was a close game but a three-point loss sealed their fate. They went from being ranked sixth in the country to 14th.

Interestingly enough, the Ducks bounced back in a major way. They closed out their season with three straight wins. They blew the doors off number five ranked Utah and followed that up with a one point win over eighth-ranked Wisconsin.

Those performances almost got them over the hump but they were forced to settle for the fifth spot instead, one slot out of the top four for the College Football Playoff. Considering how explosive they were that season and how impressive they were in knocking off two teams ranked in the top eight, the Ducks had a chance to do some magical things if they would’ve been given the call.
