Heisman trophy candidate No. 4: Spencer Rattler, QB, Oklahoma

There’s no doubt that Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler hasn’t quite played up to expectations yet this season and in the preseason, he was the favorite to win the Heisman trophy.

But preseason favorites don’t always deliver on the hype and while Rattler was spectacular last year, he did have some growing pains and the thing about Oklahoma, is the Sooners have a five-star waiting in the wings, so Rattler isn’t without pressure.

He didn’t throw an interception against Nebraska and hasn’t since the two in the opener against Tulane, but he didn’t outplay Adrian Martinez by much, if at all, and it just didn’t feel like a Heisman performance.

Rattler accounted for nearly 300 yards and rushed for a touchdown, which helped his numbers, but unless he starts playing better soon, he’s going to fall off this list entirely.

That being said, he’s still completing 74 percent of his passes and in a wide-open Heisman race, it wouldn’t take much for him to push his way back into the top three.
