Heisman Trophy Candidate No. 1: Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss

Young has been solid so far this season and that’s probably underselling it, but he hasn’t been quite as spectacular as Matt Corral, who moved to the top of the race with his Week 3 performance.

Playing the same Tulane team that intercepted Spencer Rattler twice, Corral couldn’t be stopped, throwing three touchdown passes and rushing for four more. He passed for 335 yards and amassed 68 on the ground, giving him 403 total yards and seven total touchdowns.

That’s the kind of game that will push you to the front of the Heisman race.

Admittedly, Corral was probably ranked too low in the first couple of editions of our Heisman rankings for 2021 (He was fourth last week), but he looked like the best player in college football last Saturday. At least at the quarterback position.

In three games, he’s thrown for 997 yards, completed 68 percent of his passes, and thrown 10 touchdowns, not to mention five rushing touchdowns and 158 yards on the ground.

Corral also barely played in the second half against Tulane because Ole Miss, which is 3-0, was leading by so much.

The quarterback plays in an exciting offense and as long as the Rebels can notch some signature wins this season, he’s going to have a great chance to win the Heisman.
