1 . Oregon Football RB CJ Verdell solidifies his status as legit Heisman contender

Junior CJ Verdell has already started to hear his name in Heisman Trophy whispers with a huge game over Ohio State in Week 2– a game in which he had 161 yards on 20 carries, picking up 2 touchdowns.

Verdell is looking to get a leg up on his primary competition among running backs for the Heisman, Kenneth Walker III.

Through the first three weeks of play, Verdell has 289 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on 49 carries. Walker has 493 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns on 57 carries. Each running back has helped his respective team earn victories over ranked teams, as well.

Look for Verdell to have a big game against Arizona, padding his stats against a very bad running defense. Arizona defends the pass somewhat decently, but they give up just shy of 200 rushing yards per game.

Next. Ranking Heisman contenders after Week 3. dark

The Arizona Wildcats will travel to Eugene, Oregon to take on the #3 Oregon Ducks Sept. 25 at 10:30 PM EST on ESPN.
