Heisman trophy candidate No. 1: Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss

The Ole Miss quarterback surged to the top of our Heisman rankings last week following his seven touchdown performance against Tulane.

Corral, like Ridder, didn’t play last week and that only helped his hopes as other contenders struggled or fell by the wayside.

This week though, Corral faces his biggest test. Ole Miss is ranked 12th right now and is heading to Tuscaloosa on Saturday. Not only is it a chance for the Rebels to make a statement in the SEC West, but it could be the defining moment of Corral’s Heisman campaign.

Just imagine if he has an outstanding game and the Rebels are able to beat Young and the Crimson Tide? It could be a Johnny Manziel moment all over again and if it happens Corral will become the clear favorite.

If, however, he struggles and his team loses, while Young is stellar, then the Alabama freshman will be in the driver’s seat and either way, we will know a lot about the Heisman race this time next week.
