Southern Methodist has been on an absolute tear this season, led by quarterback Tanner Mordecai. The Mustangs lean heavily on the top touchdown thrower in college football, who has 20 total touchdown passes this season.

SMU had little trouble defeating TCU of the Big 12 in Week 4, defeating the Horned Frogs 42-34 in the Battle for the Iron Skillet. Moredcai threw four touchdown passes against TCU, but it was star running back Ulysses Bentley IV who really put the Mustangs in a position to win.

The Bulls are 1-3 this season but have shown incremental improvement each week. South Florida started the season, getting blown out 45-0 by NC State. They followed it up with only a 22-point loss to a ranked Florida Gators football team in Week 2. They won their game in Week 3 against Florida A&M and pushed a ranked BYU team last week to the brink, losing by just eight points.

If Moredcai and Bentley can continue their stellar play, SMU should have no problem in putting away South Florida this week at home. If they can manage to blow out their conference foe, it’ll send a big message to voters that his SMU team is the real deal.
