Welcome to the Watch. This week will be very telling for who stays and who goes. There are some excellent Group of Five teams with Power Five wins waiting in the wings for one to fall. Though Fresno State has a loss (a seven-point defeat at Oregon), it has a quality win against UCLA.

Later this season, the Bulldogs also have San Diego State (who is on this list) in a pivotal matchup. Though the SMU Mustangs are unranked, they are undefeated and won the Iron Skillet for the second year in a row against TCU.

Army begins the most challenging part of the schedule traveling to Ball State this weekend. The Black Knights then travel to Madison and host Wake Forest. BYU has to play a tough Utah State team before hosting Boise State and then traveling to Waco to play Baylor.

No team has a more important game this weekend than the Cincinnati Bearcats. The Bearcats travel to South Bend to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Though Cincinnati will likely still sit on the outside looking in if they run the table, a win against Notre Dame would solidify themselves as the Group of Five team to beat.

Enjoy this week’s Group of Five games. New Year’s is coming.
