Alabama Football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over Ole Miss
By Dante Pryor
3. The Alabama offense was more physical
When you look at Alabama’s offense this season, it does not look like it did last season. First, they do not have a wide receiver like DeVonta Smith. Second, last season’s offensive coordinator is the head coach of the Texas Longhorns.
This season, they want to establish the line of scrimmage and protect their young quarterback as he gets comfortable with the offense.
It was apparent early in the game what Alabama wanted to do offensively. The Rebels were going to get a heavy dose of the running game. The Crimson Tide ran the football 50 times in this game. Offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien did a good job of allowing quarterback Bryce Young to throw to favorable matchups off of the running game.
The most important part of the game plan involved the Crimson Tide offensive line playing significantly better than they did last weekend against Florida. The Gators beat the Tide upfront most of that game. The opposite happened in this game.
Admittedly, the offensive line did not finish the way head coach would have liked them to finish when the game was out of hand, but the offensive line had arguably their best performance of the season in this game.
