2. Wyoming at Air Force

Sticking with Group of Five schools but heading out west, Wyoming takes on Air Force in a Mountain West showdown. Air Force won the last meeting in 2019 with Wyoming winning the three matchups preceding it. The teams did not meet last season due to Covid.

Wyoming is 4-0 on the still young season but this will be the Cowboys’ first conference game. Air Force, on the other hand, is already 1-1 in conference and 4-1 overall. The two teams own the best overall records in the conference. The Mountain Division looks completely wide open so this one is an important game to both teams.

Both offenses are scoring nearly identical points per game, 34.5 for the Cowboys and 34.4 for the Falcons. The difference may be the scoring defenses. While the Cowboys give up a respectable 23.3 points per game, the Falcons are even better at 16.6 points per game.

The rushing attacks are what to watch for between these two teams. Wyoming is led by running back Xazavian Valladay. Not only does he have a cool name, but the senior also has 340 yards and four touchdowns. He has topped the century mark twice, against Northern Illinois and UConn.

The one advantage Wyoming has here is they had an extra week to prepare for Air Force’s triple-option attack. The Falcons’ junior running back Brad Roberts leads the team 540 yards and five scores but this offense allows for multiple contributors. Quarterback Haaziq Daniels is averaging nearly six yards per carry and he has found the end zone eight times on the ground.

This should be a close game and it is a toss-up to who has the real edge. Two evenly matched teams going at it is always worth a viewing.
