San Diego State is ranked for the first time this season in the newest AP Top 25. They easily won their home opener at home after New Mexico State and then went on the road and upset and defeated Arizona. Not only did they defeat a Pac-12 team on the road, but they also won by 24 points.
They followed that impressive win with an even more quality win versus Utah in triple overtime. The Aztecs’ defense was dominant in their first two games against Arizona and New Mexico State and their offense went into overdrive when they defeated the Utes for their second straight win over a Pac-12 opponent.
San Diego State had little trouble in their victory over FCS opponent Towson but did give up 21 points though which was somewhat surprising. The Aztecs should easily defeated New Mexico to advance to 5-0.
Week 6 prediction: San Diego State 28, New Mexico 10
Defeated: Citadel (52-14), Kansas (49-22), at Buffalo (28-25), UMass (53-3), ULM (59-6)
Strength of Schedule: 110th
Road Victories: 1
Wins vs. Power 5 teams: 1
Victories vs. current ranked opponents: 0
Ranked in AP Poll: No. 15
College Bowl Projections: Bonagura: PlayStation Fiesta Bowl; Schlabach: Myrtle Beach Bowl
Week 5 result: Coastal Carolina 59, ULM 6
Next opponent: at Arkansas State
Coastal Carolina’s offense started the season putting up 52 and 49 points against the Citadel and Kansas, respectively. The Chanticleers’ offense slowed down in their first road game and barely defeated Buffalo by only winning by three points.
However, both Coastal Carolina’s offense and defense dominated UMass, and the following week the Chanticleers easily defeated ULM in the same fashion.
The issue with Coastal Carolina is they have not played any top or middle-tier opponents yet this season. They struggled mightily in their lone road game against a 2-3 team from the MAC. However, the Chanticleers will have opportunities to showcase their skills and talents moving forward and should be able to defeat Arkansas State to become 6-0 and remain undefeated.
Week 6 prediction: Coastal Carolina 41, Arkansas State 31
